About the Doctor
Dr. Phillip A. Hooker, M.D., Ph.D. was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and raised in West Point, Mississippi. He received his bachelor and Master of Science degrees in genetics from Mississippi State University. His doctor of medicine and doctor of philosophy degree in medical genetics were earned at the University of Mississippi. He was the first physician to serve as medical geneticist for the Mississippi sickle cell anemia program.
Dr. Phillip A. Hooker, M.D., Ph.D. trained at the world-famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for 4 ½ years. His specialty training continued for two more years at the prestigious Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. During his advanced specialty training, he was a teacher of medical students.
While in training at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Phillip A. Hooker, M.D., Ph.D. was contacted by the administration and board of his hometown hospital to return to West Point, Mississippi, to practice medicine. After several months of deliberation, Dr. Hooker decided to leave research and academics to return to his hometown where he now sculptures patients weekly with true tumescent liposuction.
Dr. Phillip A. Hooker, M.D., Ph.D. serves as assistant clinical professor at the University of Mississippi Medical School. He is director of the West Point genetics clinic, one of three medical genetic clinics in Mississippi.
